3D printed figures are customised physical mini figures printed and made to look like a real person, just a smaller version! They’re created by capturing a person’s shape (typically through a 3D scan/photos), turning that data into a detailed 3D model and then 3D printing the figure layer-by-layer. After printing, the figure is processed to improve realism.

I attended The IPM Experiential Expo event a couple of weeks ago and courtesy of Figured You Design Studios I had the chance to experience a 360° camera body scan which was used to produce a miniature 3D printed version of me. It has a thicker waistline than I would like, but I suppose the camera never lies. A great idea of turning a moment in time into a keepsake you can literally hold in the palm of your hand, and also have a bit of fun with positioned up against everyday objects. Great idea. Just about everyone I have shown this to wants one of their own!

Very kind and easy to talk to staff, the scan is quick and has picked up some detail I thought would of been lost. The figure itself has blown me away with how much detail was printed in colour on such a small scale. For example the orange tip on the shotgun and the small blue foresight were printed perfectly in colour which is a detail I thought would be lost. The packaging is nice and fancy and has plenty of foam to ensure the figure is safe which helped as the package was left in the rain for a while. I would recommend if you’ve got a awesome cosplay that you want to preserve in mini form and haven’t spent all your con money at artist alley..

Of course I said HELL YEAH let’s do it! 📣🏍️ I met up with them again at @comicconlpool to see my new mini figures with the Figured you team, who had spent hours and hours putting this together for me — they are honestly the nicest guys and even made me a stand! Instead of a flat traditional photo, you get a physical keepsake you can display or frighten people with! What is a digital 3D figure?

It’s you but digitised! Using our custom-built rig containing 97 cameras, we photograph and create a 3D version of you, to use digitally.
